about

1983. Chris and Sam of Napalm Beach had taken up residence in San Francisco, but decided to return to Portland that July to play a couple of small gigs and record an album.

The recording sessions were engineered by the Wipers' Greg Sage, and took place in an unfinished house in Estacada, Oregon, where the band camped for a week and recorded under Sage's unique methods. First, Sage had Newman play all the songs on bass with a click-track. Guitars were dubbed next, and drums last.

During the session drummer Sam Henry's mother called Sage to tell him that Catherine, Sam's first love and live-in girlfriend, had overdosed and died back in San Francisco, but not to tell Sam about it until his drum overdubs were finished. It was a heart-wrenching time.
